My art training started at the age of ten under the guidance of Ms Florence Miller in Atlantic City, NJ. For two years I did pen and ink anatomy drawing, pastel portrait drawing, and even ceramics. In my early teens I got a job after school cleaning the Apollo sign shop
located at New York and Atlantic Ave. in Atlantic City. They would produce entrance display’s for movie theater’s. For my work I was paid a few dollars and was introduced to hand lettering sho-cards (posters) by Mr. Pat O’Brien and pastel portraiture (see photo) by Mr. John Siegfried. I suppose that is why I now enjoy drawing entertainers. I went through my High School art training under the guidance of Mrs. Gerard and was supplied (believe it or not) with everything from pastels to oil paints. Why isn’t there enough money for supplies for today’s students?
After giving more than a few years to the United States Navy I resumed my art career and “on the job” education in the convention and trade show display business for casino’s in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
Now in my retirement years on the central coast of California, I continue doing graphic arts and fine art. And enjoy painting with my grandson, Josh, age ten.
